Jennifer Hancock | Hide Tanning Apprentice |
Hide Hustle Member

Jennifer lives with her family in an old farmhouse on a little piece of land outside of Stony Plain, Alberta. After watching the documentary “The Biggest Little Farm” 7 years ago, a fire was sparked inside her to bring her land to life by leaning into the rhythms of mother nature and learning how to apply regenerative farming practices. Since then, the empty spaces have been filled with chickens, fruit trees,a big bountiful garden and also sheep. In the fall, the back fields provide her family with deer to eat as well.

The art of hide tanning has provided a way to honor all of the animals harvested on her land, leaving little to waste. With the hours spent working on each hide, you can’t help but connect with that animal; envisioning life through its eyes and all of its struggles and triumphs. Having that kind of intention put into a hide truly makes each one a work of art that can be appreciated and used for years to come.
