Tanning Services
Wildfibre Organic Tannery TM is a full service tannery located in Yellowhead County (near Niton Junction) Alberta, Canada, offering traditional brain tanning methods on all types of hides and furs. We only use organic / food grade materials in our tannery and during the tanning process. We produce true tanned leathers by hand, that are smoked, water resistant and washable with proper care. All types of hides are accepted with approved preparation and handling.​​​
Small Furs
All small animals up to a Coyote fall in this category and range from $40 - $225
Large Hair-On
From Deer - Beef, these hair on rugs average $36 / sqft and have a 3 installment payment plan.
Finished Hides & furs
Retail selection of finished hides, and wild furs available for purchase to the public.
Large Furs
All small animals over a Coyote in size, such as wolf, bear etc. starting at $40/sqft
Leather
All hides can be finished as leather (hair off) and average $36 / sqft
Available in whole hides only.

Sheepskins
All types of sheep can be tanned and range in price from $275-$550 depending on size & wool length.
Rawhide
Goat, sheep, deer, elk, moose, beef & bison can all be processed as rawhide and start at $18/sqft
Mentorship & Education
Learn how to brain tan by registering for an online course or in person workshop / mentorship.
All hides coming into the tannery require a 10% scheduling deposit to be paid via the online invoice, and a mutually agreed upon start date. This ensures your hide is scheduled for services and keeps turn around times accurate. When we receive your hide the 2nd installment at 40% of your total invoice for services is due and we will start working on your hide right away. Once the hide is complete, the 50% balance is due within 30 days or upon pick up (whatever comes sooner).
​Our base rate for tanning is $36/sqft. Tanning rates are calculated by square footage, if you do not know the measurements of your hide, you can estimate the dimensions and the scheduling deposit will be calculated based on your estimate and the total invoice will be updated once we receive the hide and take actual measurements. We offer some flat rate services on small animal furs and sheepskins depending on type, please fill out the form below for a custom quote.​
Tanning service fee examples
Beef Hides - 8ft x 8ft = 64 sqft @ $36/sqft = $2304.00
10% scheduling deposit = $230.40​

*turn around time for xl hides is 3-5 months. We have found that this payment structure allows tanning services to be more affordable with installments spread out over the time your hide is being tanned. We also offer custom payment schedules that work with all budgets and timeframes.
​Coyote - $175 Flat rate
Sheep - $250 - $350 (depending on wool type)​
We take pride in delivering a quality service and keep you updated on progress throughout the process. We do accept full payments in advance, and monthly instalment plans. All hides are worked in the order that they are received and are scheduled accordingly.
Furs and Hides dropped off at the Tannery
Small animals: Fleshed and dried on forming board, or frozen (with additional prep costs)
Larger wild fur bearers: Fleshed and dried on forming board, or frozen (with additional prep costs)
Large Hides (goat, sheep, deer etc): Bagged and folded hair to hair, fresh same day as harvest or frozen. Salted (fat and flesh trimmed to less than 1/4" thick and 1/2" salt applied, folded skin to skin and rolled from rump to neck. Salt cured (salt dehydrated).
XL Hides (Elk, Beef, Yak, Bison etc): Bagged and folded hair to hair, fresh same day as harvest or frozen. Salted (fat and flesh trimmed to less than 1/4" thick and 1/2" salt applied, folded skin to skin and rolled from rump to neck. Salt cured (salt dehydrated).
​Shipping Furs and Hides to the Tannery
From within Canada only at this time. All small animals need to be dried, all larger hides need to be fully salt cured. this is the most efficient method for shipping and will be the least measurable weight for calculating shipping costs. Shipping is at the cost of the client and any tracking or insurance is the clients responsibility. Please contact us for shipping address in your custom quote request.
