About the event
In this class you will learn how to dismantle a pallet and reuse the wood to make a Christmas tree. Â
I will share with you all the best places to find good pallets.
We will use basic hand tools as well as power tools to explore many different, safe ways to take a pallet apart. Together we will figure out the best use of the pallet as each pallet is usually quite different from each other. With sustainability in mind, we will reuse wood that is destined for the garbage to create something new and beautiful.
You will have some options of how you want your tree to look. I have built a few different options for inspiration, so you can see what is possible. Dimensions and spacing can all be changed very easily; slight changes can make a tree look very different. Come to the class with a picture of what you want your tree to look like and we will do our best to create it your way. If you have a specific spot you want to display your tree measure that area before coming to class so you know how tall or wide you want your tree to be. The trees will be a max of 4 feet tall because that is usually the biggest dimension of a pallet, smaller is always an option. These options are all dependent on the pallets that we will have on site when you arrive.Â
When you arrive at your class make sure you are wearing closed toe shoes, you have your hair tied back and no loose clothing that can get caught in a power tool. Please bring with you a tape measure, pencil, safety glasses, optional are ear plugs and a mask if wanted, sawdust can become overpowering, I myself always use a respirator when cutting or sanding indoors. If you have basic hand tools, hammer, quick square, nail bar or pry bar, please bring along. Hand tools and power tools will be provided but it is best if you have your own to learn and practice with what is familiar to you. We want you to leave this class with the confidence that you can recreate this project on your own.Â
We will start the class at 9am, have lunch at 12 (please bring your own bagged lunch) and aim to finish by 4pm. Depending on time we may get to painting or staining your trees. If you have something specific, you want to finish your tree with feel free to bring it along with you. There will be some options on site, but they will be limited.
